George Bailey didn’t know he had it so good…till he took his journey. No doubt many of us need to arrive at that same conclusion – it really is a Wonderful Life!
I make effort to remind myself frequently that the Life in Christ is wonderful. However long one has been on this journey of faith, it is good to sing, “I once was lost, but now am found…!” If there is rejoicing in heaven over one sinner that repents, there should be celebration in our churches over each New Birth! Make water baptisms frequent and special. “Make a fuss” over those new converts…like you do the arrival of each new baby to young families. Let your passion and joy show. Redemption has come!
This Call of Ministry is also a Wonderful Life! I am amazed that He chose me. I am thrilled that He has allowed me to partner in His work. I found myself praying this way one day (and I have tried to repeat it since then)…”Lord, if there is such a thing as the toughest assignment in the whole Kingdom, and you gave it to me, I still want to call it privilege.” I know that ministry assignment has it stressors and price tags. I know that the journey jolts us now and then. But I also quickly affirm that none of the assignments since I said “yes” to this calling have been over-burdensome. “His yoke is easy, His burden is light.” Coleen and I pray that this Christmas season will refresh you in your calling.
The Christmas Season is truly a Wonderful moment for the church. Such busyness – such endless opportunity. In a world that is increasingly conflicting to the Gospel, Christmas allows us multiple moments to convey timeless truth – the simplicity of the Incarnate Lord. We pray that you will be blessed and enriched during this special season. May the churches throughout Illinois experience great fruitfulness in the many creative, God-anointed efforts of ministry this season. Coleen and I will have the great privilege of partnering with some of our open churches for the Sundays of December, and even a Christmas Eve service, sharing the joy of declaring Good News!
We take this special moment to convey our heartfelt thanks for your many kindnesses to us. We delight in serving you and this great Fellowship.
We look forward to seeing you at one of the called prayer meetings in January… next year!
