Maranatha Chapel has offered a church-based English as a Second Language (ESL) program for 13 years. Because of the influence of this program, we have had the opportunity to see students enter our various church congregations. We have also seen doctors from China who are part of an internship with a local hospital connect with teachers and their families. They visibly see Christ’s love in action and speak in terms of “feeling warmth they have never felt.”
Opportunities for adult English as a Second Language (ESL) in many parts of the United States give churches in the urban, suburban, and rural areas open doors to provide needed services to the nations’ immigrants. As churches become more cross-cultural in their purpose and vision and with a broader worldview, the church ESL begins the process of building a bridge to reach the hearts of the students with the love of Christ in the form of English classes.
